Lesotho can partly be self-sufficient with domestically produced energy, as the total production of all electric energy producing facilities is 501 m kWh, which is 55 percent of the country's own usage. The rest of the needed energy is imported from foreign countries.
Most of the Lesotho’s power is provided by one hydropower plant, but this cannot meet national demand and the shortfall is supplied from South Africa and Mozambique via the South African Power Pool.
